Tessa Perkins says, stereotyping is not a simple process. She identified that some of the many ways that stereotypes are assumed to operate aren't true.
- Stereotypes are not always negative (e.g. The French are good cooks)
- They aren't always about minority groups or those less powerful (upper class twist)
- They can be held about ones own group
- They are not ridged or unchanging
- They are not always false
Perkins argues that if stereotypes were always so simple then they would not work culturally and over time.
My work will heavily rely on the use of stereotypes. This is because in my short film Bernard will come across 3 groups of fiends that the children watching it will have to recognize. As they the birds will not be speaking the only way i can get get the different friendship groups across is by the way they look. So i have thought about all the main stereotypes that i can think of and i made reader profiles for each stereotype.
